| Have you ever been homeless and hungry for food You are too embarrassed to ask for help and some people are so rude Have you ever been unemployed and searched for work near and far The only shelter for your wife and children was a beat-up car Have you tried to find shelter on a rainy tree lined ridge Or try to find shelter from wind and snow under a highway bridge You try to wear worn out shoes that dont really fit your feet Or search in garbage cans for something fit to eat When we feel lucky and we have a good day We find something to use that was thrown away No one set out or wants to be homeless or hungry, it should be plain to see Many of us worked for many years or fought for your liberty Everyone's story is different and the system, their interest sometimes lacks And from low concern from the public someone fall through the cracks We do not hold you malice and we even pray That life always treats you good, so you don't end up this way |
