| Dedication to Jonathan & Michael |
| Veterans Helping Veterans & Others have helped homeless, needy veterans and others for more than three years now. We have helped them through our food pantry, clothing room and with personal hygiene items that we give away each month. Last year we helped more than 1200 families, plus those we helped during the Christmas season. As Commander, I feels that just because we have done our duty, like so many have, in serving our country, and gotten out after our obligations, doesn't mean we should stop serving our country. There is still plenty for us to do, especially now during these hard and trying times facing America. More than ever, we need to pull together and help one another as much as we possibly can. We served our country not just for ourselves, but for all Americans. We should be working together and helping each other not just as veterans, but as veterans and civilians. Which is why we call ourselves Veterans Helping Veterans & Others. We are veterans and civilians alike pulling together and working to make life a little easier for those in need. On January 27th 2007, we dedicated our food pantry to two young men who lost their lives at a very young age in life. One is Jonathan Etterling a Marine from Wheelersburg who was killed in Iraq and the other is Michael Orban a 16 year old football player from North West High school who passed after a very short illness. Jonathan represents the veterans and Michael represent the others, meaning civilians, in our organization. How soon we forget our fallen comrades who shed their blood in foreign countries so we could live free in America. There has been a great sacrifice made for, not only our country, but for our communities in Scioto County. A brave young man who will never know what it is like to have a family of his own or to know the joy of having children and grandchildren is gone from among us. We must not forget Jonathan Etterling and what he has done for us and we can’t forget Michael Orban who loved and cared about the lives of those who lived about him. We have T-shirts with Jonathan and Michael’s pictures on them for sale at Hope Works, {located in the old Glad Tidings building}. They can also be purchased at the dedication service or by contacting one of the members of the organization. The money raised from the T-shirts will go to help our veterans and others who are in need. There will be pictures of Jonathan and Michael on the memorial wall of the “Jonathan Etterling & Michael Orban Memorial Food Pantry” for all to see and to remind us of the great sacrifices they and many others have made, and the compassion they had for our country and community. Let’s not forget Jonathan and Michael by letting them fade from our memory as time goes by. Let’s remember them as the two brave young men they were by helping our homeless, needy veterans and others in our community.
