On behalf of Veterans Helping Veterans & Others, welcome to our Annual Poster Contest. We have some great gifts and prizes again this year to give away. Last year our theme was "FREEDOM IS NOT FREE", and boy did we have some tough choices to make before we found the winners. Everyone done such a great job. This year our them is, "WHAT MAKES ME A CHAMPION." In order to have the freedom we have here at home in America, we have had to make some great sacrifices. Some has even had to give their lives so we can have the freedom we have today. One brave young man who give his life for us was named Jonathan Etterling. He was a star food ball player for the Wheelersburg Pirates. He gave his life at an early age of 22 while serving in Iraq as a Marine. Jonathan was a Champion in every since of the word. He was in a class just like yours. At an early age he knew what makes a champion. He set a goal that he wanted to reach and he worked hard to get there. He knew he had to get good grades, be on his best behavior, be active in school and stay away from things that could cause him problems. Jonathan was a faithful member of his uncle's church and took part it the activities. He read his Bible and encouraged others to do the same. One of the things that Jonathan thought would make him a champion was to one day be a soldier in the military. He worked hard in school and done all the things he needed to do and when graduated high school, he joined the United States Marines. Veterans Helping Veterans & Others is full of champions. They work hard to see that homeless, needy veterans & others receive the help they so much deserve and need. We look forward to receiving your application so you can take part in this years contest. Be sure to read the instructions and rules so you don't loose out. God bless and have a God day. Remember our troops! |

I'm determined to be a champion. Sometimes I have to pull the weeds away so they can't "choke me out. I'm determined to be a champion. As the years go by I will bear good fruit because . . . | 2nd Place Winner Anthony Lepore - 4th Grade Portsmouth West Grade School Principal - Mr. Platzer WHAT MAKES ME A CHAMPION There are many kinds of champions some save lives by fighting fires, some stop crime such as police officers, and others fight for our freedom like soldiers in Iraq. All these ordonary people influence our everyday lives with just a small geture sometimes. Other times the risk there lives to save lives. It takes a strong person to or a {champion} to be willing to what they do in this world. |
| 3rd Place Winner Corey Lepore - 5th Grade Portsmouth West Grade School Principal - Mr. Platzer I think one of the most important champions is scientist. They make many things to help sick people such as cures for diseases and medications to help people get better. They also make biological weapons to help protect us from terrorist and others that want to take away our freedom. Scientist work hard every day, they learn new ways to help, and thats why I want to work hard and learn so I can someday be like them and help people in any way I can. Thats what I think really makes you a champion. |
