Ohio - Our Governor & Our Veterans
Governor Ted Strickland
Ohio Cares About Our Veterans
Our new Governor, Ted Strickland, cares about our veterans who have served our
great nation and he has a real concern about our troops and their welfare.  Governor
Strickland once said, "If our homeless veterans were to wear their uniform and lay down on
the streets, what would we do for them?"

Ohio is the only state that provides support and services to our veterans such
as we do here in Ohio.

Scioto County has a little more to offer our veterans because of  "Veterans Helping
Veterans & Others".  While the Scioto County Veterans Commission and Services
can offer financial support to our veterans who qualify,Veterans Helping Veterans &
Others has a food pantry, clothing room and gives out personal hygiene items,
laundry soap, toiletry items, baby needs and such as long as supplies last during
business hours.  Those veterans who are just over the guidelines in receiving
food vouchers from the VA in Scioto County can receive help from
Veterans Helping Veterans & Others.

Those veterans from South Shore, KY do not qualify for help from the VA in
Portsmouth, OH even though they are just across the river,  but they can
receive help from V.H.V.O.

While the Scioto County Veterans Commission and Services are doing such a
wonderful job for our local veterans in need, V.H.V.O. is picking up the slack
with their good work.  While our Scioto County Veterans Commission and Services
can only help veterans and their immediate families, V.H.V.O. does what our troops
have done for hundreds of years in giving aid to the needy in other countries
with only one difference, we are helping our own in need.

While Ohio is blessed with help for our veterans, Scioto County is blessed
even more because of our veterans who really care.
