In Loving Memory on Memorial Day
In Loving Memory on Memorial Day
Lance Cpl. Jonathan Etterling
Memorial Day is a day to honor our fallen hero's and remember them.  Though it is a day
of sadness, it is a day of celebration too.  We celebrate their life and thank the Good
Lord for allowing us to have them for a part of our lives for a time.  We stand with a
heavy heart and weep over their grave because they are gone and we miss them so
much, but yet we stand with family and friends and laugh over things they said and did
with us as we have our picnics, outings and reunions.

We have parades, special services with speeches, song, placing the flag at half mast
trying to do things and say what they meant to us.  No matter what we say or what we
do we will never be able to do or say the words to describe how they lived and what
they did for us.  They took time out of their lives away from their family and friends,
away from their home, away from their every day living to put their lives on the line for
the greatest nation in the world, to give their lives so we can live safe and free here at
home in America.

All the parades, services, songs, speeches and things we do for them can never replace
or fulfill what they had in their hearts for us all and the courage and compassion for
their country and the willingness to lay down their lives for us.

We can never bring them back to us or fill their shoes.  All we can do is do and say
things in memory and honor of them to keep them alive in our hearts and minds.

Michael  Orban
Though Michael Orban was too young at 16 to be in the military he was, in many
peoples eyes, a hero.  He had a heart and mind to serve others.  He loved his school,
sports and he work and played his heart out for the Northwest Mohawks.  He was a
great student, set a good example for others to follow and he was loyal to his fans,
school and teammates to the very end.

At 16 Michael was involved heavily with the youth in his community.  He worked in
summer camps, taught they youth from his Bible, encouraged children to do right and
live right.  There is no doubt that Michael Orban would be serving in the military today if
he had lived fighting for his country.  He was a strong, level headed young man who
lived life and lived it to the fullest.

Though Michael didn't serve in the armed forces he was a Soldier in the Army of the
Lord.  Though Michael is gone, the things that he loved to do is still going on today in
loving memory and honor of his life through Veterans Helping Veterans & Others.

Veterans Helping Veterans & Others salutes Michael Orban for the mark he made in life
with his life for us all as an example to follow.
