| Over 1000 people gave their support to Veterans Helping Veterans & Others during Thursday night service at the Spring Jubilee held at the Scioto County Fair Ground again this year. An offering of $4,900 plus was presented to John Foster, Commander and Matt Large, Treasurer of V.H.V.O. to help further our work in the community for homeless, needy veterans and others. Along with the donation, two pick-up loads of groceries was given to their Jonathan Etterling & Michael Orban Memorial Food Pantry. Veterans from every branch of service stood as their branch of service song was played. Arnold Stevenson, a 91 year old World War II veteran, who is a board member of V.H.V.O., received a standing ovation as he was introduced by Calvin Evans & John Foster. For the past four years Calvin Evans has given his support and backing to V.H.V.O. During hard times when the organization didn't’t think they were going to have food in the pantry Calvin Evans came through for them. Every year during the last five years at Christmas Calvin Evans has been a big boost in seeing that homeless, needy veterans and our civilians in need has had food and toys. Last year during Christmas when Portsmouth and New Boston officials no longer allowed V.H.V.O. to solicit funds in the streets as others do, Calvin Evans and Evangelistic Outreach came through for them and 900 people were helped. Because of Calvin’s faithful support and backing, he was presented with an award naming him, “Honorary Veteran”, at the Jubilee by the organization. There are a lot of good people like Calvin Evans who did not get to serve in active duty but they do a lot for our veterans and soldiers. There are several such people in our organization and they have earned the title, “Honorary Veteran” for their sacrifice and faithful support of our veterans and soldiers. V.H.V.O. salute Calvin Evans and those civilians who are working behind the scene making a difference in the lives of our veterans and soldiers returning home in dire need of our T.L.C. |
