Programs For Veterans
By:
Veterans Helping Veterans & Others
1/. Lance Cpl. Jonathan Etterling Memorial Food Pantry:
Each month the food pantry is open for any veteran, his family, widow and widower of a
veteran to get help with food items. By helping them with a little food, it makes a way for
the veterans to use some of their money they get from the government and etc. each
month to pay on a bill or take care of an emergency they may have.
2/. Lance Cpl. Jonathan Etterling Memorial Care Packages:
Each month we send care packages to the troops in Afghanistan and/or Iraq. {where ever
we are requested to send them in foreign countries} These care packages Keeps the
memory of Jonathan alive, they let our troops know that we have not forgotten about
them, they are appreciated and they are in our prayers.
3/. A Helping Hand for the Handicap Vet:
We store handicap equipment such as hospital beds, walkers, shower chairs, wheelchairs
{electric and manual}, and etc., that is donated by the public. When a veteran comes to
us in need of these items we see that they get what they need. {as long as supplies last}.
4/. Helping Hands for Veterans:
The Helping Hands Program is set up to help those veterans with gas to get to the doctor,
pay a utility bill, deposit and etc. We also help with furniture, clothing, household items
and etc., as it is donated to us. We have also transported Veterans to the doctor who
had no way there.
5/. God’s Hands & Feet Boutique:
Our veterans, widows and widowers of veterans can come to the store once each month
with their family and pick out a complete outfit of clothing for each member living in their
home.
6/. Lance Cpl. Jonathan Etterling Annual Memorial Christmas Program:
Each year a special service is held for our veterans and their families to honor them for
their services to our country. We have a special speaker, songs and each veteran is
presented with a special medal. After the service there is a nice hot Christmas Dinner
served to the veterans and their families. Santa is on hand for pictures with the children
and give them a small gift. Before leaving, each family is given a food basket and toys for
the children to have Christmas at home.
7/. Chaplain Service:
Few visit the civilian and VA hospitals to visit our veterans and offer prayer. We visit the
nursing homes, hospitals and homes of veterans to have prayer and visit. We have
donated new walkers to veterans, visited nursing homes during Christmas to give them
gifts and thank them for serving. If a veteran calls for spiritual support or prayer, we see
to it. We look for volunteers to visit with veterans on a one on one bases each month
who has no visitors or family.
8/. Service Officer:
We have a qualified Service Officer who comes to the office two times each month to help
veterans file their claims, get their benefits due them, answer any questions, and if
needed, send them to the proper people to help them. If a veteran needs assistance
before or after our Service Officer is in, we get them in touch with him. Some call the office
from other parts of the country for help and our Service Officer will try to get them in touch
with the right people in their area and answer any questions they might have.
9/. Vet Center:
Personnel from the Vet Center in Columbus works through us to help those veterans who
suffer from P.T.S.D. They go through our Service Officer to set up appointments with our
veterans and they come to our area to see them.
10/. Home Health Care Provider:
If our veterans have a Home Health Care Provider that does their shopping, pick-ups and
deliveries, V.H.V.O. will work with them for our veterans.
11/. Cell Phones For Soldiers:
We collect used cell phones from the public and mail them to Cell Phones For Soldiers.
They are exchanged for phone cards and sent to the troops in foreign countries so the
troops can call home.

Our thrift store benefits not only our veterans and their families, but the community and
those who shop with us.
