Our Track Record

First we want to say thank you to all those who have donated financially and with material.  Through overwhelming obstacles and
in spite of our adversaries, we have been able to do the following for our homeless and needy veterans. {As long as supplies and
finances last}

The following are some of the things we have done in our organization since our beginning five years ago.  As you will see, we
have done a lot for our veterans.  Some have come from South Shore, KY.  We knew that if a veteran came to the Portsmouth VA
for help they could not get it because they are not from our area, however, if they come to us for help we will help them in any way
we can as long as supplies and finances allow us.

We have a service officer who comes in two times each month to help our veterans with their claims and a Vet Center that
comes in from Columbus once each month to help veterans who have P.T.S.D.  We have a food pantry that is open two times
each month to help our veterans that are having a hard time making it.  We give away clothing and we give out handicap
equipment to our veterans in need.  We have taken our veterans to the VA hospitals in Chillicothe and Huntington WV when they
had no way there.  We have helped those who have cars or a way to get to the hospital with gas.  We have helped with electric
bills, gas bills, rent and even helped a veteran with his car payment to keep him from losing it.  We help our veterans
set up house keeping and people who have been burned out of their homes.  We send Lance Cpl.
Jonathan Etterling Memorial Care Packages to the troops each month. Each Christmas we recognize and honor our veterans and
their families with a special service, a nice dinner and a food basket with toys for the children are give to each family as they leave.

We also serve our community by inviting Job & Family Service and the Senior Citizens Volunteer Program workers to work with
us.  We are involved in other outreach programs in the area such as collecting bears for the fire department to give to the
children, cleaning up our highways, collecting for Jerry’s Kids, supporting other food pantries, collecting cell phones for troops is a
few to mention.  We have offered and donated food, water, clothing, handicap equipment, toys and etc. to the victims down in
Olive Hill, KY during the flood where they lost everything they had.  We have helped our local homeless shelter with food and
clothing.  We have made donations to other Post, helped them with fund-raising.  We are involved with CROP WALK each year.
We are affiliated with the well know Feed The Children Program.  We worked with Salvation Army in preparing and serving food to
the homeless and needy.

We have had veterans and their families traveling through our area looking for work and living in tents while looking.  The VA
could not help them with a food voucher or anything because they were not from our area.  Veterans Helping Veterans & Others
helped them with food, blankets, clothing and other needs.  Veterans from other parts of the country have contacted us for help.
They didn't’t know where to go.  Our Service Officer directed them in the right direction.  We have a web site where veterans can
go to find help with issues pressing them.

Our organization has been in operation for more than five years now.  We are a 501c3 and registered with the state.
Everyone are volunteers and we operate on donations and items sold in our thrift store that is donated by the public.  We never
turn anyone away that is hungry and in need, but our veterans are always first.

Personally, as a veteran, I feel that being discharged from the military doesn't’t mean there is a stopping place for me when it
comes to serving my county.  America is in trouble and she needs all of us working together to get her back on her feet.  It
sometimes feels like our poverty stricken area has been forgotten about, but we must do the best we can.

Welcome to
Veterans Helping Veterans & Others
In Loving Memory of
Jonathan Etterling & Michael Orban
Welcome:

On behalf of our homeless and needy veterans , we bid you welcome to our web
site.  We are veterans who have joined hands with others in our area to help our
veterans with low income and do not qualify
for help from the VA .  It is our
intentions to serve our veterans in every way we can.
Everything donated to Veterans Helping Veterans & Others go to helping our
veterans, widows and widowers of veterans.  Clothing donated helps anyone in
need.  We have helped our veterans for more than five years thanks to those who
care.  Our veterans/troops have taken time out of their lives away from family,
friends and home to serve our country to keep us all safe and free.  The least we
can do is help them in the time of their need.
